Insect meal maker sequences black soldier fly genome

The Cape Town, South Africa-based Insect Technology Group, the parent of fishmeal alternative maker AgriProtein, has sequenced the genome of the black soldier fly, which it believes will be able to eventually improve operations at its factories.

AgriProtein said in a Friday, Nov. 29 a press release that it and the University of the Western Cape's South African National Bioinformatics Institute have successfully sequenced the genome for both sexes and multiple strains of the fly from Kenya and South Africa.
